Travel Documents
Brazil only requires a travelers passport (valid for up to 6 months after return). A copy of your passport to carry during your stay is recommended. You can easily leave your ID at home, since it has no value here. If you plan to rent a car, you need international license. Keep license and car papers nearby, there are regular checkpoints on Brazilian roads. There are heavy fines for not wearing safety belts on the major roads. Make sure that you never use slippers while driving. Wear closed shoes or sandals or drive bare feet.
Money
The Brazilian real exchange rate is changing almost daily. In Salvador it is quite easy to exchange foreign money. In our region you can only cash from an ATM using VISA, MASTER CARD or MAESTRO (R $ 1000 maximum / day / card). Beware of isolated cash machines, which can sometimes be unreliable.
